MLO 1 Language Proficiency Students are able to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines.
Under this criteria, I have completed the courses: SPAN 321: Masterpieces of Hispanic Literature. SPAN 300: Pre-Capstone Spanish Majors. SPAN 301S: Service Learning in the Latino Community. SPAN 304: Introduction to Hispanic Cultures.
Reflective Narrative Through the classes I mentioned previously, I learned how to communicate effectively in spanish in the different three modes; interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational. Span 321 helped me expand my knowledge according to the Spanish literature. This class gave me the opportunity to read and analyze different writers and their most recognized work of all times. It also helped me get more involved in the Spanish culture and how it’s different from the Mexican culture. On the other hand, something very important that I learned in this class was; before reading a literary work you have to know a bit of the historical context to be able to understand what it is about. Span 300 helped me start my graduation project (capstone) and allowed me to choose my partner. In this class I had the opportunity to interact with my classmates and express some of my ideas according to my research topic. This for the purpose of helping each other. In addition, in this class I learned how to find different types of help, for example I learned how to use all the different types of resources provided by the school. I especially liked using Library because it was easy to navigate and I was able to find various articles, books, and text that helped me elaborate my academic research paper. Span 301s was a very helpful class for me, because I had the opportunity to interact with different members of my community. I also had the opportunity to practice my spanish skills and help some of the students to study for their citizenship test. This class motivates me to be more involved with my community and learn from it. Span 304 introduced me to the Latin American culture and focuses in narrative, poetry , and an introduction to theater. I had the opportunity to read amazing novels and tales and learned about the biography of important and recognise authors. For example; Juan Rulfo, Rosario Castellanos, Rosario Ferrer, etc.
