Course description: Students perform introductory translation assignments from Spanish to English and vice versa. They develop an understanding of translation theory through reading and class discussion and come to understand communicative translation and compare it to a direct, word-for-word approach. Problematic grammatical, discursive, and pragmatic issues are analyzed and the grammar of Spanish is reviewed in detail. Taught in Spanish.
Reflection: This class was one of my last class in my last semester at CSUMB. Before I got this class I didn't not what elective classes to get. Later on I found this class and connected so good with my schedule. After that I was not sure to continue with this class because I was scared about the translations part! After a few week I started getting really excited for this class because we were learning the process of translations. Also we have the opportunity to observe a presentation that came for a university from Monterey. They show us hoe they are able translate a conversation using simbols and drawings. In other hand this class helped me to expand my vocabulary I add to many new English words and I feel more confident speaking English with other people.
