MLO 2 Language and Linguistic Knowledge Students are able to communicate effectively in Spanish in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, and in a culturally appropriate manner in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency, according to ACTFL Guidelines.
Under this criteria, I have completed the courses: SPAN 303: Advanced Spanish Grammar. SPAN 301: Composition and Oral Practice. SPAN 345: Bilingualism in Spanish World.
Reflective Narrative Span 345 provide me really good information about bilingualism. In this class I had the opportunity to learn about (cambio de codigo), (spanglish )and( immersion language programs). In this class we focused on understanding the grammatical differences that exist between Spanish and English. Other topics that we studied in this class were the different controversies that exist in the United States according this topics. Some people do not agree that their children have to be exposed to learn two languages at the same time because they think that the only language they have to learn is English. Span 303 helped me improve my grammar. This class helped me expand my vocabulary and learn different grammar rules to improve my writing. Some of the topics we discussed in this class were: The subjunctive, the verb to be and be. These two specific topics seemed very interesting to me, at first I thought they were going to be easy to understand but then I realized that they were challenging and complicated. Span 301 helped me get out of my comfort zone by allowing me to express my ideas in a very unique and informative way like my Capstone. I can still recall my first day at CSUMB, I was very shy and afraid to speak in front of my classmates. I can now say that, I have improved in those areas, by allowing myself to feel confident to speak up without being shy or afraid. Many of the activities carried out in this class were to analyze different writings and plan presentations where we could discuss important and relevant topics with our classmates.
